My Story

Hi! My name is Inglis (pronounced like “English”), and I am a master’s level practicum student completing my last year at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Asheville. I received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Missouri in Columbia (Mizzou) in 2015 and have been working in the mental health field since 2016. After completing my undergraduate studies, I worked as a research assistant at Washington University in St. Louis. I was a part of various NIH-funded studies, primarily one where I worked with individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and bipolar disorder and another developmental project with children that focused on twins and substance use exposure. I moved to Asheville in 2019 where I immediately began working with individuals at a dual-diagnosis, trauma-informed treatment center. During my time there, I supported clients struggling with trauma and addictions through one-on-one sessions as well as facilitating groups of various topics. I enjoy working with individuals navigating trauma and feel it’s where I have done some of my best clinical work. I am also interested in helping individuals struggling with substance use and interpersonal relationship.

I operate with an attachment and trauma-informed lens while also utilizing Person-Centered Therapy and Internal Family Systems to explore the roles we play in our dynamics and systems, to better understand and accept the emotions that may come up, and to practice being in the “here and now”. I believe in the importance of community and connection in recovery and healing and that some of the most empowering work can come from being more informed on our personal experiences and reclaiming the autonomy to rewrite our own narratives and better align with our values.

My community is extremely vital to my wellbeing, and that includes spending intentional time with my family and friends when I am not working. I love to go to concerts, engage with art in any way, do tarot, play tennis, and research niche psychology topics in my spare time. I also try to maintain connections to the recovery community by offering monthly moon ceremonies and continued care through recovery management.
